REPORTING
The Finance Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer
The Finance Office has an independent reporting line into the respective Board Sub-Committee, or into the Board directly.
The Finance Officer directly supervises the Finance staff of the Firm.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• The Finance Officer is responsible and accountable for applying accounting principles and procedures analysing financial information, maintaining accurate and reliable books of accounts preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and statements ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures.
• The Finance Officer also has functional responsibility for monitoring and ensuring the Firm's compliance with the prudential rules and the prudential returns submitted to the AFSA. Ultimate responsibility for compliance sits with the Board.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Compile and analyse financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts, ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with policies and procedures.
◌ Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
◌ Prepare financial management reports.
◌ Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
◌ Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures.
◌ Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
◌ Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities.
◌ Monitor and support taxation issues.
◌ Develop and maintain financial data bases.
◌ Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process.
◌ Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
◌ Analyse and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues.
◌ Analyse financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
◌ Ensure the start of day/end of day procedures in the accounting system.
◌ Ensure that all daily transactions are entered correctly in the accounting system.
◌ Prepare payroll sheet and other documents required for salary and benefit payments to employees.
◌ Perform other tasks as may be required by the CEO.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Accounting degree or equivalent
• Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles
• Knowledge of economic principles
• Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations
• Experience in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation and providing financial advice
